Caylen Faith
2024
acrylic and glass paint on canvas
20 x 16-inch canvas board.
This painting depicts a woman's face surrounded by two feathers. Through the absence of the woman's eyes, Caylen shows that she can not see the world as others see it. The black sludge in the woman's eyes shows that she can see the world and all its cruelty, and the way the sludge spills out of the woman's eyes shows that the word she sees consumes her. The woman's cheeks are puffed dramatically as if she is smiling wide, however she isn't. This is done to show that the woman's smile lies internally with the darkness she sees. The feathers that surround the woman are meant to represent purity because the way the woman sees the world is the truest despite how dark it is. This piece would be a great addition to any space and would be a great conversation starter.
