Caylen Faith
2024
acrylic, watercolor, glass paint, paper, and colored dye on canvas
24 x 18-inch canvas.
The background of this painting is made from multiple doodles Caylen Faith made during her freshman year of high school. These small drawings show Caylen's journey through the year both in life and art. The majority of this painting is blue, since it is color Caylen best felt represented her year. However her year wasn't all sad, she uses all the different hues of blue to represent the shifting of emotion and confusion that she has felt this year. Splatters of white adorn the canvas to represent Caylen's childishness and the streaks at the bottom and top of the canvas represent reaching towards meaning in life. In the center of the painting the phrase "I don't know the one called love, but I still remain desperately clinging to you, Blue" is written. This sentence is addressing Caylen's freshman year with the subject "Blue" being it's name. This sentence is an import part of the painting because it summarizes all of Caylen's complex emotions throughout the year into a short meaningful reflection.
